02/04/2010 Does the San Joaquin Delta College Board of Trustees Want a Union-Only Project Labor Agreement?
It appears certain elected Delta College Board of Trustees members want to waste taxpayer dollars and give Big Labor a monopoly on the $156M of the remaining Measure L Construction Bond Program Funds passed in 2004.
On January 27, the Delta College President, staff and certain Delta College Trustees participated in a closed door meeting with at least one attorney representing the construction trades. The purpose of the meeting was to draft a union-exclusive Project Labor Agreement for the remainder of the Measure L Construction. If approved, money that could be spent on new schools, better classrooms and more educational opportunities for the students will be wasted.
WECA-IEC, ABC, ASFA, PHCC and ACTA representatives and contractors told the board at their monthly meeting on February 2 to say:
No Costly Project Labor Agreements
No Wasteful Spending
Yes to Competitive Bidding and Taxpayer Accountability
WECA-IEC members are encouraged to contact the Trustees and encourage them to put taxpayers first and reject any back-room deal with the construction trade unions.
