02/04/2010   Contact your Senator to Oppose Nomination of AFL-CIO Counsel to National Labor Relations Board

Contact your Senator today to oppose President Obama's nomination of Craig Becker to serve on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).  Mr. Becker has a history of anti-employer, pro-union views which are not in line with the non-partisan make up of the influential NLRB.

The NLRB is the critical federal agency which supervises and conducts union representation elections, supervises union organizing campaigns, and rules on unfair labor practice charges filed against employers or unions.  Essentially, the NLRB helps establish the Nation's labor policy for private sector employers and unions, and therefore helps set labor-management relations throughout the country.

Mr. Becker has written that he believes that employers should be completely barred from not only participating in the election process, but also from questioning who is in the bargaining unit (i.e. supervisors) and all worksite discussions of an election with employees.  Mr. Becker has even gone so far as saying that union representation should be mandatory and that the only choice afforded to workers should be which union to join.

Add to that the recent comment by William Gould, chairman of the NLRB during the Clinton Administration, that the NLRB has the ability to implement card-check without waiting for the passage of card-check legislation and Mr. Becker's nomination becomes even more concerning.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Mr. Becker's nomination requires approval by the U.S. Senate, which means that it needs 60 votes to stop a filibuster.  Contact your Senators today and encourage them to oppose Mr. Becker's nomination.
