03/04/2010   CSLB Reports on Electrician Certification Enforcement, Including Two Fines and A Criminal Conviction

The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) recently released an update on its efforts to enforce electrician certification:

  • CSLB has received 33 referrals from the Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS) reporting uncertified activity
  • Twelve of the referrals resulting in violation notices/warning letters
  • Two of the referrals resulted in administrative citations (for $1,500 and $2,750)
  • One complaint resulted in a criminal conviction for an illegal advertisement; the certified electrician was using his electrician certification to advertise for work that required a license.
The most recent enforcement efforts come on the heels of a pair of $2,000 civil penalties that were issued by CSLB to two Sacramento-area contractors last October for violating the electrician certification law. For information on how to comply with electrician certification so that your company does not receive a similar fine, contact WECA-IEC at (877) 444-9322 or infor@weca-iec.org, or click here for more information online.

How to file an Electrician Certification violation complaint:
If you would like to submit a complaint to DAS about an electrician certification violation (complaints are referred to CSLB for investigation), click here for details on how to do so. In order to investigate a complaint, CSLB must have specific details such as clearly identifying the electrician in violation and the contractor he or she is working for.
