Does WECA offer State Certification Exam preparation classes?
Yes. WECA offers exam preparation classes for electricians planning to take the exam, all taught by qualified
instructors who have taken and passed the exam. There are a variety of formats to choose from, ranging from a 2-day
"brush-up" course to an in-depth 10-week course. View current course offerings.
Why does WECA require students to bring the
2002 edition of the National Electrical Code

What is the supervision
requirement under California's electrician certification law?
The required supervision ratio is one Certified Journeyman Electrician to one
Electrician Trainee and one Apprentice. This means a Certified Journeyman can
supervise up to two uncertified electricians at at time as long as the two
workers consist of one Trainee and one Apprentice.

Does WECA offer an electrician trainee program?
Yes, WECA offers a state-approved Electrician Trainee Program. As of January 1, 2006, any electrician who has not
taken and passed the state certification exam must be registered with the state as an electrician trainee and enrolled in
a state-approved electrician trainee program, or indentured in a state-approved apprenticeship program.

How do I enroll as an electrician trainee?
To enroll in the WECA Electrician Trainee Program,
download an enrollment form.
Once you have completed and submitted your enrollment form to WECA, we will send you an enrollment confirmation.
Once you receive your enrollment confirmation, submit it to the state along with a completed state electrician trainee
registration form.

How do you file an Electrician Certification violation complaint?
As of July 1, 2009 the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) is
responsible for enforcing the Electrician Certification law (Labor Code
3099.2). Any complaints about violations should be sent to the Division of
Apprenticeship Standards (DAS); complaints received by the DAS regarding the
violation(s) of this Labor Code will be forwarded to the CSLB.
If you would like to file a complaint, complete and submit the complaint
form below with as much information as you have about the complaint.
Once completed, print out and send the signed form along with any
corroborating documentation in support of your complaint to the DAS at
the contact information given at the bottom of this article.
